This felt like a mix between the Pyramids of Mars, the Hand of Fear and the Robots of Death
Has the Doctor ever gone on holiday and have it not go wrong? For most people, it would probably put them off travelling, but it would probably be weird for a holiday to go right for him! The Doctor is really taking the mick throughout this story, with his "tap tap tappity tap, tappity tap... tap tap" and messing around with Morax. Leela is unfortunately not standout, and I was not invested in anything going on with her, if anything. However, she did get some good hits in against Morax.
Okay, Morax. At first I thought of the mud creatures from Series 11 which was a bit awkward. However, I thought he was a solid, if a bit generic, villain. The pacing of the plot development was executed well as it slowly reveals more about the character until the plot twist when the Doctor realises he's not gone. The use of senses is utilised to the extremes which makes for a thrilling story, especially when the mask is ripped off.
A smaller guest cast allows the writer to delve deeper into the side characters, but to be honest, I don't feel enriched into their lives. They were developed and interesting, but there was nothing about them that made me feel invested. Despite this, it slightly works in its favour as it allows Morax to have the spotlight, and each character has a certain reaction to his actions.
This story has a warm familiarity of the past, whilst coming up with something original. A pretty good story in terms of plot, but lacking in characterisation, which is a disappointment compared to Season 1.
