The most interesting thing about this story is how it is told, but sadly that is almost the only interesting thing about it. The plot is straightforward, the characters lack depth (and particularly good motivation), the setting and atmosphere is passable, and it turns out that the lovely framing device has very little impact on the story as a whole. On the plus side, Constance gets some development, though not too much.
