Review of Gooseberry by DanTheMan2150AD

And you found Andy... On behalf of the human race, I apologise.

When it comes to Gooseberry, I'll be honest, the fact I hadn't clocked this was coming out makes me more annoyed with myself than anyone else, but what follows is great, as with every other Owen release from the Torchwood Main Range. Owen + Andy + James Goss = Magnificence. Owen simp and proud of it.

Andy has a girlfriend. She's called Caite, and she's utterly lovely. And then she meets Owen. Owen finds out that Caite has a secret. One that he's desperate to understand. But the more he discovers, the more dangerously close to Caite he becomes. What's going to happen when Andy finds out? Obsession is a powerful motivator and it just so happens that Owen has now found his addiction...

James Goss' writing covers themes of addiction and obsession and partnering this with Owen is a stroke of genius. Then you further partner him up with our man Andy and you get a deep dive into the minds of our characters that feels fantastical and ground at the same time. It tells its ideas with a degree of maturity and respect but is made all better by the fantastic performances by Burn Gorman and Tom Price who just seem to have this endless chemistry. Also some major props and chops to Lois Chimimba as Caite, despite her rather lacklustre performance in The Tsuranga Conundrum, here though she fits in perfectly with the duo and her character is more than what she appears to be from the get-go. Blair Mowat's score is its usual top-notch level of quality with his incorporation of the classic themes powered by some great underscoring, of course, Owen's Theme makes its patented appearances throughout and are used in just the right way in order to give it just enough of a punch, combine this with Peter Doggart's sound design and once again.

Overall, Gooseberry is not at all what it makes itself out to be, it's definitely another James Goss winner, but I feel like it was just shy of something that could have rivalled The Hope or Iceberg. Maybe next time.

There's no harm in being ambitious.
