If I had to pick any episode as a thesis on the relationship between Rose and the Doctor, this would be it. Rose does the typical time travel trope of saving someone who was supposed to die—in this case, her father—and as can be expected, all goes terribly wrong. Their dynamic, and to a degree lack there of, is at its best here in showing who they are. Despite being angry with Rose, he still does so much to try to keep her father alive. Rose and Pete have such a sweet relationship, especially considering the constraints of time they have together. Such a poignant episode that really focuses on the human quality of the show.
