This is part of a series of reviews of Doctor Who in chronological timeline order.

Previous Story: The Secret History

What could be a more fitting start to Classic Doctors, New Monsters than the Weeping Angels, easily the most iconic Nu-Who monsters and up there with the big classic three of Daleks, Cybermen and Sontarans. This story is a great example of the Weeping Angels at their best.

You'd think they wouldn't work on audio considering just how much they are a visual villain, but they function surprisingly well. I love that this story adds a little bit to the mechanics of the angels, with them being carved out of stone by Michelangelo but simultaneously doesn't add too much and remove their mystery.

Speaking of Michelangelo, he was easily one of the funnest parts of this story, even if his character was fairly cliched for a famous historical artist. Also Diane Morgan (best known as Philomena Cunk) and Sacha Dhawan are in this, something I didn't realise at all the first time I listened. They're both really good and it desperately makes me want a proper "Cunk on Doctor Who".

There were some fairly good timey-wimey moments, with the Doctor appearing to the couple before he had met them. Michelangelo's servant being sent back in time and living out most of his life was a really cool plot-point, though it's definitely lifted from Blink.

All in all, I'd say this story is basically just Blink in that it has a lot of the same elements, only now the Doctor is not seperated from the action, which I enjoy. You'd think though, that this story being extremely similar to Blink would make it unoriginal and boring but it manages to put it's own spin on it and Blink is just so good anyway that I can't rate this low at all.
