Previous Story: The Face in the Storm
And finally we come to the end of this run. It’s been a mixed bag quality-wise but I still found it quite fun. I’m not sure exactly what to think of this story, it has an excellent first half - Tom Baker gets to put in a really good performance thanks to writing that allows the Doctor to be a bit more callous than usual.
The second half is where it falls apart. It’s already a bit difficult to take the Quarks and the Dominators seriously, especially when the former basically just talk like pitched up Daleks. When it gets to the interpersonal conflict among the Dominators that’s when it gets quite boring for me. I just find it really difficult to invest in.
Overall, it was an odd choice to bring back a villain like this one but it very nearly succeeded… until it didn’t.
