This was the best of the series 9 novels. It starts off very tensely with a crew going to discover what's in the last wormhole of an ancient alien race called the Phaeron. (Sidebar - how many ancient cosmic races have been shown in various EU books?) We meet quite a large and expansive crew, most interestingly our Richard Branson stand-in, an incel desperate to meet his mother who vanished here years ago, and a cloned astronav straight out of Dune. The tension ratchets up, but the resolution doesn't quite deliver as well. Initially the crew finds themselves on a ruined planet and although people keep dying, we don't care about all of them. The reveal is about what you'd expect: the alien race were just getting rid of something which of course turns out to be the Glamour which is still a bit hard to understand. Overall a good read, but it seemed to be setting up a whopper of a reveal which never materialized.
