Review of By Jacqui McGee by dema1020

I really have not been enjoying the Nemesis portion of the UNIT series as much as I would have liked.

There's elements to this story that really could have worked.  We say farewell to recurring character Jacqui McGee here, and there are moments where they really do her character justice.  This is somebody I struggled to enjoy so far so her having a somewhat heartfelt farewell is something, even if I definitely don't feel like her heroic sacrifice was really built up in the writing around her character, nor do I think it will be used for any meaningful pay-off down the road.

Too much of this story isn't even focused on that anyways, and it is a huge drag on the overall experience.  Our other main characters are running around and not doing much.  I like Kate, Osgood, and Naomi, but they have some pretty painful and on the nose dialogue here.  I find the Vulpreen extremely boring, too.  Something about the audio design feels cheap in this third Nemesis box set, too.  As if we never quite can afford a cast the size the story kind of needs to have the effect it deserves.  All told, it's an audio I wanted to enjoy, but found it lacking even as a generic spy thriller.  It's just too cheesy to take seriously and not fun enough to not take seriously.  A major bummer overall.
