This is a simple but highly effective story told from Victoria’s perspective, which adds a unique dimension. Her viewpoint highlights the Doctor’s aggression in a way that feels shocking, regardless of who it’s aimed at—in this case, the Daleks. Her humanity makes the ongoing conflict with the Daleks feel more unsettling. Despite the fact that they killed her father, she retains a sense of sympathy and dignity in how she regards them.

It’s fascinating to see the Doctor emotionally riled up, particularly the Second Doctor, who is generally not an angry figure. This contrast makes his emotional intensity here all the more impactful. Beyond that, the story is beautifully illustrated and makes excellent use of Victoria, a companion who often doesn’t get as much focus as she deserves. It’s a poignant and well-executed piece.
