Review of Aladdin Time by thedefinitearticle63

8 June 2024

This is part of a series of reviews of Doctor Who in chronological timeline order.

Previous Story: The Broken Crown

The Nest Cottage Chronicles is such a unique series, you genuinely never know what to expect with each installment. This one, for example is a half-retelling of Aladdin with the Doctor's iconic scarf serving as the genie. It's stories like these that remind me why I love Doctor Who, in can be absolutely anything.

Guy Harvey was less annoying as the titular Aladdin but as soon as he reverted back into Andrew/Alex he was back to being a pain to listen to. Luckily that only happens towards the end so it doesn't detract from this story whatsoever.

There is a noticeable lack of overarching mystery in Serpent Crest. It's a shame because that's one of the main things that I really enjoyed about Hornets' Nest and Demon Quest but that's a general complaint with the whole set rather than this story specifically. Even then it's not a big gripe as Serpent Crest is heading towards being my favourite series of The Nest Cottage Chronicles regardless.

Next Story: The Hexford Invasion
