Nature didn’t intend there to be Ankylosaurus or Dimetrodon in the twenty‐first century; they were wiped out long before man first raised a wooden club and said, ooh, last one to kill a woolly mammoth’s a rotten moa egg. Yes, humans have mocked nature, wiping out the dodo and the passenger pigeon and the thylacine – but this place doesn’t apologise, it laughs at her even more.
