“Nightshade is weird, it's scary and it's wonderful. It's one my favourite depictions of Seven, with an absolutely petrifying tone and a real grim style to it that never feels like it's going out of the bounds of Doctor Who like some other VNAs.”
“It's full of fun and interesting ideas as well. I adore Saul, the sentient church. I also think that out of the Timewyrm saga it captures the Doctor and Ace best. They feel real here, especially Ace.”
Andrew Cartmel easily delivered the best book in the VERY loose Cat's Cradle trilogy; one which prioritised gorgeously bleak world-building above all else.”
“Just a fun novel that's a relatively quick read and makes an mediocre villain from the show into a very credible threat.”
“Well I really enjoyed this one. Just when I thought I knew what was happening, there would be another twist to subvert my expectations, and yet all the paradoxes etc did end up getting addressed, and usually explained.”
“I love Witch Mark. It's imo one of the most underrated New Adventures, with lots of atmosphere, a really fun take on the “door to another world” genre that I think stands on its own merits as that even apart from being a Doctor Who story.”
“It slots in really well with the general tone of the first series. Rose, 9 and Mickey are spot on in their descriptions and actions throughout the book.”
